18 Songs That Defined The Lives of ’90s Children

Being a part of the transition from cassettes to CDs to digital distribution, while familiarizing ourselves with the internet, ’90s children were a part of multiple trends in both music and style. With spiky hair, going to raves, watching Yu-Gi-Oh! and The Power Rangers, while dancing our souls to Las Ketchup’s Asereje, ’90s children lived in different times. And if there’s one thing that can truly bring nostalgia back, it’s the memorable tunes that we used to listen to, while experiencing our first kisses and first heartbreaks. Thus, we decided to give you the 18 songs we believe defined the lives of ’90s cildren.

Bomfunk MC’s – Freestyler

In times when the iPod didn’t exist and people walking with Walkmans wearing headphones were considered quite obscure, Bomfunk MC’s released their signature song – Freestyler. While, as children, we didn’t quite understand the meaning behind the music video, we definitely remember how we used to sing “Waka-maka-fo,” instead of “Rock The Microphone.”

Britney Spears – Opps!…; I Did It Again

Long before going mental and cutting her hair, then going back to the music scene to fall into obscurity, Britney Spears was a cute young teenager, who managed to energize us in a way no one else could. With her songs sparking a pop revolution, she changed both the music and fashion industries. And we just can’t help but start singing along, when we hear one of her most popular songs from the time – Oops!…; I Did It Again.

50 Cent – Candy Shop

Even though we didn’t quite understand the lyrics of 50 Cent’s Candy Shop, quite the way we do now as adults, we still loved to listen to it over and over again, while feeling like true gangsters.

Las Ketchup – The Ketchup Song (Asereje)

Even though we don’t know their other songs, the one hit wonder Las Ketchup, managed to take us by surprise with The Ketchup Song (Asereje). Long before Gangnam Style and a few years after Macarena, Asereje is one of those songs with a crazy dance routine we’ll always try to copy at the club when we hear its tune.
