Twenty-two years ago, Kiran’s mother resorted to abandoning her child to try to escape an abusive relationship.

Her mother phoned a childcare organization, the Samaritans, but before they could arrive, Joe had already found Kiran.

30-year-old Joe went to the authorities and soon applied for adoption to take in baby Kiran, but was denied the privilege.

‘I was allowed a picture with her, which I kept,’ Joe said.

Joe kept in contact with Kiran until she was 5-years-old and sent her gifts and birthday cards. Social services eventually asked him to stop.

Kiran, now 22, put the word out that she wanted to meet the man who saved her. Sure enough, Joe, now 52, married, and with 5 children, heard about it and was overcome with joy.

The two finally met after being apart for more than two decades.

“He says anyone would have done what he did, but they wouldn’t. It’s so amazing to have been reunited with him. He’s my hero. We lived down the road from each other for years, we must have passed each other, I can’t believe we were so close,” Kiran said.

Joe added, “This is the happiest day of my life. I never stopped thinking about her, I never thought this day would come. Kiran has a family waiting for her now, my children will love to meet her. I’m so grateful we have been brought together.”
